US House Judiciary Committee Anti Trust Report

The US House Judiciary Committee has just released its Minority “anti-trust” report on Amazon, Apple, Facebook & Google.    The document is entitled “The Investigation of Competition in Digital Markets

At 449 pages long its quite a tome and I have yet to read it (apart from selected extracts) and I don’t feel insomnia setting in any time soon.  However, the one thing that is fascinating is to read the list of companies that each of them has acquired over the past decade or so, which is to be found at the end of the report.    It’s a pity we don’t have similar data for Cisco, HP, Microsoft & Oracle because I suspect they may have achieved similar numbers, but nevertheless it provides an insight into some of the tech trends they are interested in/focusing on.

There are a number of commentaries emerging which summarise the key points.   If you are interested
this link may be worth a visit.

I mention it is a minority report because as I understand it the report was issued by Democratic members of the committee.  A couple of Republican members are issuing their own report and recommendations.  One I am aware of is Congressman Ken Buck, his “Third Way” report can be found
here.

I suspect that many of the arguments raised in the minority report will be imported into the arguments for greater regulation of tech here in the U.K. with an eye on justifying more digital services taxation as well as oversight.
